Writer. Editor. Mitherer.
To plagiarise Woody Allen, here’s nothing wrong with me that a little Prozac and a polo mallet can’t cure.
Previously commissioning editor at Channel 4’s 4Talent Central, I’m currently an editor at Channel 4’s film website, where I write about films and also run @Film4’s Twitter account.
I love films and wine, and I am fascinated by cartography and calligraphy, having absolutely no talent for either myself. I draw very prettily, though rarely finish anything. I suffer fools gladly, so if you think you might be a complete idiot, please do get in touch. Non-idiots also cautiously encouraged.
I also share a birthday with Liza Minnelli. My heroes are Stephin Merritt, Kenneth Tynan and John Kennedy Toole.
I’m available for writing commissions and consultancy and have some experience of public speaking, Q&A hosting, podcasting and so on, so get in touch if you have money, an interesting piece of work or ideally both. You can find a small sample of my reviews on Rotten Tomatoes if you click this link.

That's some multitasking, right there.

I just read Joss Whedons 10 Writing Tips on Danny Stacks Blog (http://dannystack.blogspot.com/2009/01/joss-whedons-top-10-writing-tips.html). I would like to translate them into german and put them on my blog, if I may!? Would that be okay?
CatherineBray // January 19, 2009 at 5:32 pm |
Yes, that would be fine – could you link back to my blog with a credit please? Thanks.

Hi Catherine,
Good to meet you at the Frontline Club. I’ve never met an intellectual from Bournemouth before so if you’re ever back in the Bomosphere look me up!

Good to meet you too. Seriously considering applying for Frontline membership.
Bournemouth may not be overflowing with smarts, but hey, at least it’s a happy town: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/dorset/6431649.stm

I love the word “mithering”.
catherinebray // March 5, 2009 at 11:17 am |
It used to say ‘flaneur’, but I decided ‘mitherer’ was quite possibly the best and most apt of all possible words. In general, not just this context.

I am an idiot too… unfortunately I was beaten to the punch by about one year (it only proves my point).
I also love “flâneur” (which I embody)…
Good luck.

Just wanted to drop you a line to say, I enjoy reading your site. I thought about starting a blog myself but don’t have the time.
Oh well maybe one day….

Hi, Catherine…
I’d like to discuss possibly reprinting one of your pieces in a collection I’m editing. Please contact me at twinvelvet@gmail.com at your convenience.
Thank you for your time!
